Set on Pelee Island, Lake Erie, Canada near the end of the 18th century, The Vinedressers is based on true stories and an Indigenous myth from Pelee Island. Taking place at the Vin Villa vineyard, home, and wine cellar, as well as the Pelee Island lighthouse amongst the migrating Monarch butterflies, the work explores fate, beauty, and legacy. The young Helena, adopted as a baby by the vineyard's owner Mrs. Stewart, dreams of leaving the island and seeing the world. When a young traveller named Christian appears, they quickly fall in love and make plans to leave together. Norimo, the manager of the vineyard, however, has been planning on marrying Helena and taking control of the business for himself. The conflict comes to a head on a stormy night, ending in tragedy.
