SYNOPSIS
Two miners are making their way into the heart of the mountain. There, they discover another world.
MUSIC DESCRIPTION
The scene opens with two miners singing a work song in a round while they work. A crack in the stone—underscored by slow, repeated piano chords that serve as the "heartbeat of the mountain"—signals the appearance of two green children, who together sing a simple, almost chorale-like duet.
